Wine Storage Solutions
Cellaring Your Investment
Wine is one of the few consumer products that can improve with age. However, it can also deteriorate if it is not closed, properly stored and served with care.
Closures, or 'stoppers', aim to provide a consistently reliable, easily removable seal that prevents the wine from coming into harmful contact with oxygen. However, wine should be stored with consideration of light, temperature, and humidity.
Home wine storage should be carefully thought out because if wine is exposed to strong sunlight, is kept too hot or too cold, or in conditions that allow the cork to dry out, the wine can deteriorate.
Cellaring your wine at the correct storage temperature and in a climate-controlled environment is the ideal way of storing and ageing to ensure it will realise its full potential.
Building or adding an underground wine cellar at home can be an extremely costly and time-consuming exercise. Our range of custom built wine storage solutions are a perfect replacement or an excellent accompaniment to a home wine cellar.
Wine Cabinets Australia's Vinotheque Series and Cellar Series cabinets, are auto temperature and humidity controlled in order to preserve the colour, aromas and flavours of your wine in an environment protected from extreme and fluctuating temperatures.
Enjoying Aged Wine
Serving a wine correctly will help you to gain maximum satisfaction. By decanting aged wine you allow for the removal of any sediment or 'crust' that may have formed in the bottle as the wine has aged. This process can stimulate or enliven its characteristics by exposing it to air and giving it a chance to 'breathe'.
Four Important Elements to Age Wine
You've chosen your fine wine with care; it is crucial that you age it in a stable and controlled environment.
There are 4 elements, which are critical to the proper wine storage and ageing of the wine:
- The temperature of the wine cellar should be regulated between 13 degrees c and 15 degrees c to ensure that the wine will age slowly.
- The humidity inside the cellar must be maintained between 60% to 70% through refrigeration in order for the corks to be moist; thus, keeping the wine bottles properly sealed.
- Darkness is necessary because ultra-violet radiation from direct sunlight destroys the color and flavor of the wine.
- A stable environment is needed to ensure that there is no vibration from above, below, or within the refrigerated wine cellar, which can affect the flavor and/or bouquet of the wine.
